All places at St Mellons will be administered by Cardiff Council in line with the admissions policy of community schools in Cardiff. Applications for all admissions should be made directly to Cardiff Local Authority via the online admissions portal.
Places are allocated in accordance with Cardiff Council’s admissions policy. Where applications exceed the number of places available, admissions criteria will be applied fairly and consistently.
If you are refused a place at our school for your child, then you are able to submit an appeal to the Cardiff Independent School Appeals Panel.
Applicants will be notified of the result of their application in writing by the Local Authority in April, unless you have been offered one of your higher preferences through the coordinated admission process.
The maximum number of pupils admitted to a class in any academic year is 30. In addition, there are 48 part-time places in the Nursery. Should the number of applications exceed these number, each application will receive careful consideration and will be dealt with fairly and equally. A full copy of the Admissions Policy may be requested from the school office or downloaded from the school website.
As in all schools, children admitted to our nursery classes do not have an automatic right to a place in full time education (Reception) at our school. Parents wishing to apply for a Reception place at St Mellons must submit their preference via the council’s school admissions portal at www.cardiff.gov.uk by the deadline set by the Local Authority. Places are confirmed in early April.
A meeting for new parents in Reception class will be held in the summer term and details regarding a starting date will be given at this time.
